The legendary dancer has placed Cuba in a privileged position on the map of the universal ballet. She made a career, but also a company and a school.
Her extraordinary creative journey has always gone hand in hand with her commitment to the most just causes of her people.
She has been ambassador of Cuban culture worldwide. She is a symbol of genius and perseverance. Alicia is her own monument.
The Ministry of Culture has announced a national tribute to the director of the National Ballet of Cuba and exceptional figure in dance in Latin America in 2010, on the occasion of her 90th birthday, to be held on December 21st.
The day of Cuban culture will be dedicated to her, the culmination point of a program that will include several commemorative activities during these months. The 22nd International Ballet Festival of Havana is also dedicated to its founder.
As Alice’s legacy is linked to all areas of artistic creation, the tribute will be multicultural.
Other institutions and groups of dance in many countries will also join the celebration, given that she is one of the most international dancers of the 20th century.
