Cuban and American celebrities of the World of Jazz will join their talent and spirit next week in Havana during a concert headed by Cuban flautist Orlando “Maraca” Valle and backed by drummer Horacio “El Negro”, percussionist Giovanni Hidalgo, trombonist Hugh Fraser and pianist Harold Lopez-Nussa.
This is all about Maraca and The Monterrey Latin Jazz All-Stars, jazz top figures from Cuba, Canada, the United States and Japan, who usually make free versions upon works of classical Cuban composers from the late 19th and 20th centuries, which they combine with works of Maraca.
Other musicians to come to the stage in Havana include saxophonist David Sanchez, from the U.S.A., Cuban Yusef Diaz and Feliciano Arango, in the keyboard and bass respectively, violinist Sayaka and Cuban trumpeter Cuban Julio Padron.
Maestro Ivan del Prado will conduct the Havana’s Chamber Orchestra, also part of the concert.
The music event will take place in Havana after garnering successful presentations: the Monterrey Jazz Festival in the U.S.A., September 2008 attended by some 6, 000 people, and a year later, at jazz festivals in the Colombian cities of Cali, Medellin and Barranquilla with packed theatres.
The musicians’ performances in all those stages received the longstanding applause from the public, which is expected to again take place in Havana next Tuesday evening.
The leader of the music stars is outstanding Cuban flautist and composer Orlando “Maraca” Valle, who is considered by the Los Angeles Times as “one of the most demanded names of Afro-Cuban music.”
Valle is one of the Cuban musicians that best represents his generation; a good producer who has worked with Cape Verde’s Cesaria Evora, Afro-Cuban All Stars and Chucho Valdes and Irakere band, as well as with Jane Bunnet, from Canada; Monique
Seka, from Ivory Coast; Yumuri, from Cuba; Leonid Agustin, from Russia; Nora, from Japan, and many others.
Maraca was nominated to a Grammy award six years ago in the category of Best Salsa Album; he ranked among the first 15 places on the Tropical Music hit parades of the 2002 Billboard magazine. Maracas has been nominated to and awarded Cuba’s EGREM and Cubadisco prizes in the categories of Latin Jazz, Fusion, Popular, Novel Artist and Records.
