Contest, Holguín City’s Seven Wonders along with the events "Across History", "The City that We Want", "The Beers’ Route", "Holguin and its Working History", and "Expo Science 2010" are among the events scheduled by local authorities for the celebration of one more anniversary of the granting to Spanish captain Francisco Garcia de Holguin of some land (April 4, 1545) where he opened the farm where Holguin city would emerged later.
Among such works are the embellishment of squares and Holguin city’s entrance highways, road asphalting, and others so attractive as the presentation of a vermouth wine and a rum that would be named "465 Anniversary of Holguin".
But also the refurbishment of schools, hospitals, the clinics of the family doctor, sport facilities, cultural and scientific institutions, stores and cafeterias, among other centres.
One of Holguin city’s symbols, the Hill of the Cross, will be favoured by the new lamps to be placed there along with other down town streets and several neighbourhoods that the local Electricity Company will work to make their nights as clear as the day.
The song “Mi querido Holguin” (My Dear Holguin), composed by local late musician Manuel de Jesus (Koko) Leyva, will inspire the campaign for the new anniversary.
