China awards Cuban Scientist

President Hu Jintao presented the award to Lage at a ceremony held at the Great People's Palace in Beijing in the presence of other top Chinese leaders, including Prime Minister Wen Jiabao.
"This award is a prize to my country's work on the field of biotechnology and an honour to all the people linked to it", the prestigious researcher and Cuba's Academy of Sciences member told Prensa Latina, adding that it has special connotation as it was conferred right before the Science Day in Cuba on January 15.
Another six foreign scientists were also awarded for their meritorious work in their respective fields of research. They were Arima Akito (Japan), Ernst-Ludwig Winnacker (Germany), Michel Che (France), and Yuen-Ron Shen, Vincent Chan and Britton Chance (United States).
They were Cuban Ambassador Carlos Miguel Pereira also attended the ceremony, which preceded a meeting between China's State Councilor Liu Yandong and the seven awarded scientists.
