Angel Galá is harvesting excellent tobacco. His brigade, number 26th in Eliseo Caamaño cooperative production unit started to sow on October 20th and ended November 20th with the 105 000 seedlings scheduled.

Now his concern is how to storage so much tobacco in so little time, since the age difference among the lots is short.

With a traditional yielding of around 600 quintals per caballeria, he thinks the current campaign will not be less than the previous one.

The plots, with great vegetative development, seem to support his expectations.

Three men only, helped by the family women are in charge of the fields, pick up the leaves and string them. In the end, the economic results compensate so much effort.

The question is how in the midst of such adverse weather during the first stage of the campaign, these tobacco fields of Consolacion del Sur municipality show such health.

Daniel Suárez, president of the cooperative, considers that the characteristics of the ground help, as well as a good draining that reduces the harmful effects of the heavy rains, while the humidity left by them constitute a very positive factor.

Several days ago they finished planting the 16 caballerias committed, and although recognizes it is too soon for predictions, Daniel says this harvest seems to surpass the previous one.
