Workers from the Electricity Enterprise in Ciego de Ávila by the end of 2009 achieved outstanding results in their operation, which made them the winners of the first place in the national competition.
This achievement is endorsed by the absence of lethal accidents during the year and the decrease of losses in the grid up to 10, 34 percent, which figure places the province ahead at the national level.
Pablo Manuel Samper, the director of the Enterprise also expressed that they stayed under the national average regarding power interruption time per client and electrified over 3 900 houses.
“All the 40 watts bulbs were replaced by 32, certified and enlarged the capacities of several distribution substations, installed breakers of 110 kilowatts and lines with automatic cut-off, which actions provide the system with more reliability”, Samper added.
Héctor Ojeda, in charge of distributed generation, expressed that by the end of December the availability registered was over 94 percent, one of the highest in Cuba, which grants a high-quality service.
The result—he said—is due to the efficiency of the 85 generating plants that operate with diesel and the 36 that operate with fuel oil, which machines are able to generate over 120 megawatts.
Gustavo Viera Moreno, the business manager of the Electricity National Corporation, said to AIN that the workers of the branch in Ciego de Ávila are ready to carry out bigger actions in and out of the Island, due to the capacity developed in recent times.
This province and Granma support the production of transformers of the Latino industry with the rolling of those equipments, sold at approximately 1 000 dollars a unit on the international market”, Vera Moreno added.
