The Copacabana Hotel in Havana, operated by Cubanacan Group, recently reopened some 70 rooms that remained closed for remodelling for more than three years.

All rooms and facilities are expected to be ready by next summer.

The hotel's director Fidel Garcia told ACN that the rest of the rooms and facilities that remain closed are expected to be ready by next summer for a total of 168 standard double rooms.

The investment process covers remodelling of the Ipanema Club that includes a reception room, a cafeteria and a bar, Garcia said.

In January 2009, the Copacabana was partially opened with 44 rooms fully remodelled and fit out with new beds, TV set, air conditioning, minibar, curtains, lingerie and safety box.

Other facilities refurbished were the Tucan buffet restaurant, the D´Oporto Pizzeria, the lobby bar, the gym, the swimming pool, the snack bar, the tennis courts and the terrace.

Besides, the hotel has now a Cyber Cafe offering 24-hour internet service, car rental, a tourism information office and an International Diving Centre, sponsored by the Cuban Marlin Marinas which offers courses with certificates that are internationally validated.

The 3-star Copacabana Hotel was inaugurated in 1955 with 88 rooms. After a wide reconstruction program to increase its capacity, the hotel was reopened in 1992.

At present, its clients are mostly from Spain, Mexico and Italy, according to sales deputy director Vivian Vera, who noted the interest of the hotel’s staff in making the facility the best one of its category in Havana City
