In a ceremony at the Cuban Embassy in Moscow, Cuban Ambassador Juan Valdes Figueroa gave the order to Primakov and described him as a prominent politician and statesman, a clever diplomat and experienced academician and a close friend of Cuba.
Our country appreciates Primakov's solidarity and his honest, personal friendship towards Cuba, he stressed.
The Council of State of Cuba conferred the order to the former chief of Staff for his unswerving willingness to work in the consolidation of relations between the Governments, States and peoples of Cuba and Russia.
"This is a solemn day for me, as I am receiving an order from a country for which I always felt solidarity and love dearly," said Primakov.
"On many occasions I talked for hours with comrade Fidel and comrade Raul, to whom I convey my most sincere appreciation for this order, and also to the Council of State for this decision," he concluded.
