Santiago de Cuba is the third province of the country where all municipalities have SUMA technology, which implies that six new municipalities have Active General Research Centres for diagnosing diseases on first phase and reach a better quality of life.
Suma labs are equipped with kits that determine the existence in the human body of antibodies against HIV, hepatitis C, the surface antigen of the hepatitis B and its confirmation, detections of malformations in the neural tube by the alpha-fetoprotein and the congenital hypothyroidism.
“Besides the massive and active work, there is also the task to detect the Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), for an early detection of prostate cancer on the way that new diagnostic studies are being done thanks to the already available technology acquired”, said Dr Bernardo Castro Castro, regional TECNOSUMA director.
Also, José Ramón Balaguer Cabrera, Cuban Health Minister and José Miyar Barruecos, Minister of Science, Technology and Enviroment were at the opening of the ninth centre together with authorities of the Cuban Communist Party and of the Municipal and provincial government.
