During the meeting, both leaders spoke about topics related to the development of bilateral relations and other issues of regional and international interest.
Machado thanked the visitor for his nation’s traditional solidarity with Havana and, particularly, for their support of Cuba’s struggle against the US financial, commercial and trade blockade.
For his part, Samuel Hinds thanked Machado Ventura for the island’s assistance to Guyana in the health sector and in the training of professionals for more than three decades.
Another topic of analysis during the meeting was the current situation in Haiti after the devastation caused in Port-au-Prince by an earthquake on January 12th.
Also present in the meeting was Cuba’s First Deputy FM Marcelino Medina.
Cuba and Guyana have had fruitful and friendly relations for 37 years when this nation, along with Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago, decided to establish full diplomatic relations with Havana.
