Mona Gamal Abdel Nasser, daughter of former Egyptian president Nasser, laid a floral wreath at her father’s bust located at the African Independence Heroes Park in this capital.
In statements to the press, the Egyptian woman said she had grown loving Cuba, and its leaders Fidel and Raul Castro along Cuban-Argentinean hero Che Guevara, because her father spoke to her about them and the Cuban people with great admiration.
She recalls her father referring to the two countries freedom struggles and to the Cuban revolutionary thoughts, therefore she was looking forward to visiting Cuba for the first time.
Mona Gamal said she was very happy for this opportunity and talked about the similarities between Havana and Alexandria, both sea cities.
During her stay she expects to visit and get to know as many historical, social and cultural places as possible, she said.
In the ceremony, she was accompanied by Enrique Enriquez, head of the North Africa and Middle East department at the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Tarek Elwassimy, Egyptian Ambassador to Cuba.
