Performing 100,000 successful eye surgeries to low-income people is easy to say but, for the beneficiaries who recovered their sight they have been 100,000 miracles.
The Cuban ophthalmologists working in Ecuador since 2005 have since heard their patients voice their wonderment and
appreciation to the leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro for creating this humanitarian mission.
In 2006, one physician and two engineers equipped modern ophthalmological centers in barely 50 days to treat, among other, cataract, pterigium and glaucoma.
Mission coordinator Doctor Milagros Mata congratulated her colleagues and committed to improve services and keep up quality work to benefit Latin America.
