50 Years of Spanish Dance", was opened Wednesday at the History Museum of the provincial capital of Pinar del Río with the words of José Elpidio Gómez Prieto, director of "Argelier León" Musical Studies Center.
This exhibit comprises a group of enormous reproductions that include posters, signs and photos, some of them of real size to resemble the natural dancing style of the renowned Spanish dancer. Besides, it includes fragments of interviews that constitute a homage to the artist.
Sponsored by the National Council of Cultural Heritage and Antonio Gades Foundation in Spain, the project has toured some Cuban provinces starting in Santiago de Cuba, where the mortal remains of the Spanish dancer and choreographer rest at the Mausoleum of the II Eastern Front Martyrs.
After being shown at Emilio Bacardi Museum of Santiago, it continued to Santa Clara and will end now in Pinar del Rio, where is to be exhibited for a month.
Antonio Gades, who was born in Elda, Alicante, founded his first dance company in the 1970s, through which defended the most native rhythms of his nation. Gades travelled throughout the most important stages of the world and became one of the utmost exponents of the dancing manifestations of the past century.
An example of his attachment to dancing, is reflected in one of his quotes: "Dancing is not in the step, but between the steps. Making a move after another is nothing else but that, movement, but the how and the why, what you want to transmit with them, that's what matters".
