The Cuban National Forest Ranger Corps predicted an increase of fire danger in the country, due to poor rain during the last four months, said Granma newspaper on Friday.

According to the notice, alternate high-temperature periods and the wind in the southern region will be favorable to fire propagation.

Large amounts of combustible material, amassed over the forest structure after hurricanes Gustav, Ike and Paloma crossed the island in 2008, feed this kind of phenomena.

The Cuban territories at high risk of being affected by fires between February and May, a highly dangerous season, are Cienfuegos, Santi-Spiritus, Ciego de Avila and Camaguey provinces and special Isla de la Juventud municipality.
