Cuban Idalis Ortíz: Bronze in Paris Judo Grand Slam

"Cuban sportspeople are never satisfied with results that could amount to more. The bronze here is added to the gold conquered a few days ago in the open tournament of Arlon, Belgium" declared Ortiz in exclusive interview with Prensa Latina.
Ortiz repeats now the bronze won at the Beijing 2008 Olympics and at the world championship in Rótterdam, the stout judoka has still another match in France in the next days.
The 20-year old, born in the western Cuban province of Pinar del Rio, said the tournament at the Palais Omnisports of Bercy in Paris is one of the most demanding the world over and winning a medal is always encouraging.
She defeated French Rosalina Oukoloff in a scenery she knows by memory to ensure the medal, although later she lost to Russian Elena Ivashchenko by technical penalty.
Professor Ronaldo Veitia, his main trainer, was not at all satisfied with the result.
"We always go for the top, but it is all right to say that Cuba reaffirms her level with this performance, despite the difficulties imposed by the draw.," Veitia commented to Prensa Latina.
In 2009, Idalis got Silver when she fell before her most cunning rival, Chinese Wen Tong. On this occasion, she did not get a strong hold to attempt destabilize the Russian athlete.
"I feel all right in this superheavy division and I am getting more experience and self-reliance. Of course, there is still much to learn, but according to my trainers, I make progress. I hope to complete a great preparation for London," she added.
The rest of the Cuban performance in the Parisian contest was not outstanding. Onix Cortes, after passing to the second round, fell before Hungarian Anett Meszaros, later Silver in the 70-kilo category, division won by French Lucie Decosse.
In the masculine division, Asley Gonzalez was eliminated in his first combat by Uzbek Dilshod Choriev in 90 kilos and Oreydis Despaigne by Rumanian Daniel Matei in the 100-kilos category.
