The coordinator of the International Committee for Freedom of the Five on US soil Alicia Jrapko told Prensa Latina on Monday the above when explaining the results of the recently concluded Fourth National Latino Congress held in El Paso, Texas.
"The ones who live here" she pointed out "know how difficult it is to get to the public opinion, especially if it is an issue like this, which was muted from the beginning by the government but step by step we have open spaces."
She said that is a difficult task "because the subject is still largely unknown to most Americans, owing in particular to the media gag imposed on it."
Jarpko said that one example of such "gained spaces" is the Latin Congress, "to which our committee has attended in its last three annual meetings."
This time, she stated, representatives of more than a hundred Hispanic organizations "observed with receptiveness the information provided and some expressed their desire to work in their communities."
Delegates approved a set of resolutions and amendments to those already sanctioned in previous years, including one on the Five and one referring to Luis Posada Carriles, both supported unanimously.
The first resolution states to send a letter to President Barack Obama, who won the Nobel Peace Prize 2009 demanding the release of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and René Gonzalez.
She explained the letter also points out "while this does not happen, the current US administration will grant visas to Adriana Perez and Olga Salanueva to visit their husbands."
Jrapko added Posada Carriles' resolution demands the binding of international law rules and that the terrorist, who enjoys total impunity in the United States, could be extraditated to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
"The same amendment, she argued, claim the White House that Cuba is excluded from the list of countries that sponsor terrorism" and said "that is another of the absurdities of Washington."
Last December, the US government's denied the parole appeal (humanitarian visa) to Salanueva, which again prevents the right to reunite with her husband.
Rene Gonzalez is 15 years imprisonment in a prison in Marianna, Florida and the last time they saw each other was in 2000, before she was deported to Cuba.
Meanwhile, Adriana Perez and Gerardo Hernandez had no contact for over 12 years.
The Five, as are known worldwide, warned about murderer plans forged against the island by Cuban-born terrorist organizations in South Florida.
