Cuban pianist Chucho Valdes returned to Cuba on Tuesday from the United States, after participating in the 52nd edition of the Grammy Awards, held in the city
of Los Angeles.
Chucho, who now accumulates seven awards given by the National Academy of Recordings Arts and Sciences (NARAS), was received at Havana’s Jose Marti International Airport by Natacha Garcia, the Cuban Music Institute’s Director for Communications.
While referring to the recent prize he obtained, his fourth statuette given by the US Academy, to which three Latin Grammies are added, maestro Valdes told ACN: “it’s an acknowledgement to work and it encourages us to work more.”
The last two awards were for the album Forever Together, which he shares with his father and teacher, Bebo Valdes.
Chucho said that he will soon record a song he composed entitled Haiti will Return, of which a video will be made, and that all the profits will be donated to the Haitian people, devastated by the January 12 earthquake.
