Entrepreneurs from the French city of Mortagne-au- Perche and its mayor Jean-Claude Lenoir held several meetings today with a Cuban representation to expand business ties with the island.
Visiting Mortagne-au-Perche after attending the inauguration of Ornexpo-2010 Fair in the neighboring city of Alencon, Cuban ambassador to France Orlando Requeijo met with Lenoir, member of ruling Union for Popular Movement, Prensa Latin reported.
According to the report, the French town has business bonds with Cuba through the firm "Tuile de Bois" of Mortagne-au-Perche, dedicated to the export and production of tiles.
The firm’s director, Pierre Hervé, told PL that he was impressed with the authentic structure of Cuban wooden houses and its variety, for which he ventured to implement in the island a project named Camaha (Wooden Houses and Inhabitants).
“We are working with the historian’s offices of Santiago de Cuba and Havana to lead a thorough research about the project and spread it across the world,” Hervé explained.
The French businessman told PL about the Cuban commitment with the environment in the development of the forestall industry.
The French company provides wooden tiles to hotels in the island.
We are thinking on opening in-field workshops in Pinar del Rio and Havana’s municipality of La Lisa for the large-scale production of wooden tiles, Hervé said.
Meanwhile, Lenoir told the Cuban ambassador that he is interested in expanding bonds in the sectors of culture and heritage and he mentioned the possibility of organizing a trip of mayors to Cuba.
Requeijo appreciated the demonstrations of friendship and told the mayor that the embassy is planning to organize a Cuba Night in Mortagne au Perche.
