The 19th International Book Fair underway in the central province of Sancti Spiritus was attended Thursday by Cuban Culture Minister Abel Prieto, who corroborated that the event goes beyond its commercial value and is turned into a cultural celebration.

A round table was organized Thursday morning to mark the 40th anniversary of the magazine Signos. It was attended by Cuban writers Eduardo Heras León, Ricardo Riverón and Esbértido Rosendi, who lectured on the history of the publication and paid
tribute to one of its organisers, Cuban folklorist and writer Samuel Feijoo.

El Maestro y Margarit, a book by Mijaíl Bulgákov, was launched on this same day. Bulgákov is considered the best exponent of the twenty’s century literature in Russia, the Guest Country to this year’s event.

The award ceremony of the International Love letters (Cartas de Amor) contest -a cultural Project by local writer Liudmila Quincose and plastic arts artist Julio Neira Milián- was also held with the attendance of the Cuban minister of culture and local party and governmental officials. Havana’s Juliana Venero was awarded the Grand Prize. Elaine Vilar Madruga was recipient of the first prize, while the second and third were granted to José Raúl Fraguela (Pinar del Río) and Nosley Expósito (Sancti Spiritus).

The Internatinal Book Fair was started here February 24 and will be over this Sunday.
