This book on Cuba has fun sections on the country's music (rumba to mambo, rap to reggaeton), food and drink.
The author also includes entertaining sidebars; Havana, for example, has three statues of the Russian revolutionary Lenin and one of another "revolutionary," John Lennon.
There is also a fascinating chapter on Guantanamo, the island's mountainous province known more for its notorious American naval base than for its sights (a sidebar explains the base's incongruous presence there).
U.S. citizens, however, are allowed to travel to Cuba only under limited conditions. Sainsbury encourages would-be travelers to check www.cubaupdate.org and www.cubacentral.com for the latest news on that front.
