The Cuban troupe has already received standing ovations at the Place des Arts Theater in Montreal and the Albert Rousseau Theater in Quebec, Prensa Latina news agency reports.
This is the fourth time the Lizt Alfonso performs in Canada, and it will also dance for ballet lovers in the cities of St Albert, Calgary and Ottawa.
Created by its director and choreographer Lizt Alfonso in October, 1991, at Cuba’s Dance Promotion Center (Centro de Promocion de la Danza de Cuba), this group was initially known as “Danzas Ibericas”. It became an independent company in October, 1992, and it’s now part of Havana’s Grand Theater.
Its dancers combine different forms of contemporary choreographic, musical and theater composition and has toured some 30 cities in Holland, Mexico, Egypt and Canada.
In 2008, Lizt obtained the Dora Mavor Moore Award, given by the Toronto Theater Alliance, in Best Choreography.
