The selection includes ten pieces from ten creators from European, North American or Caribbean origin, chosen with a criteria that tries to be adapted to the Cuban public, said Christine Van Assche, main curator from the collection of new media from the French institution, says AIN.
Called The untreatable beauty of the world, the exhibition includes titles from classical creators in French Cinema, such as Godard and Chris Marker, unfold in this case in the video language.
There will be also screened for the first time the work of famous artists of newer generations, such as the British Isaac Julien, the North American Jennifer Allora and the Cuban Guillermo Calzadilla.
The public will be able to appreciate in some cases the heritage of national creators, such as Santiago Álvarez and Sara Gómez, explained Jorge Fernández, director of the Wifredo Lam.
Van Assche appreciated the interest of Cuban artists for the so called new media, included since the 1960’s, as part of the expressive tools in art.
Video, as an artistic mean, held its moment of explosion during the 1990’s, as creators from all over the world began to exploit its expressive potentialities, multiplied by digital options.
One of the institutions of world reference for contemporary art, Pompidou has recently acquired audio-visual work from Cuban artists, among which are Carlos Garaicoa and Glenda León, pointed out Van Assche.
