The increase of cultivable areas and the handing over of idle lands in usufruct foresee the incorporation of four new Camaguey-based cooperative farms to the productive movement known as the "Movimiento de 100 000 quinatles" which gathers farms reaching an output of more than 4 500 tonnes of rice each.

To achieve this goal these grass-root rural entities have been supplied with fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides, consumables provided by the Ruta Invasora Rice Company, the Agroindustrial Complex that has also delivered rice harvesters and tractors.

Ángel González Quintana, who runs the program in the cooperative and private sector in Camaguey, said that out of eight cooperative farms which belong to this movement, four are located in the municipality of Vertientes, two in Florida, one in Céspedes and another one in Santa Cruz del Sur.

We have analyzed even to welcome other four farms, said González Quintana referring to the “Niceto Pérez” and “Reynaldo de León Llera” cooperative farms, in the southern municipality of Vertienets; the “Camilo Torres” farm, in Florida; and the “Camilo Cienfuegos”, which is located in Sierra de Cubitas.

“Vertientes leads this Movimiento de 100 000 quinatles, precisely because the “Manuel Ascunce” Credit and Service Cooperative (CCS) Farm was the first one in Cuba that produced 4 600 tonnes, and its workers expect to reach the astonishing figure of 13
800 tonnes this year.
