Cuban Deputy Minister of Information Technology and Communication Boris Moreno was honorary guest on Wednesday at the opening ceremony of INDIASOFT2010, an event on information technologies in which experts from around 50 countries are participating.

Speaking at the ceremony in the city of Jaipur, 155 miles south from this capital, the Cuban official referred to the Cuban efforts to develop computer sciences.

Our government is aware that it is not possible nowadays to expect improving economic development in a country, without taking into account the role of information technologies, Moreno asserted, according to the version of his speech given to Prensa Latina by the Cuban embassy in New Delhi.

In that respect, he said that a national strategy is currently being applied to turn Cuba into a "nation of excellence," regarding software production and services.

We have made great efforts to train professionals in that sphere of software development, said the vice minister, who highlighted that computer sciences are being studied in at least 17 universities in the country.

Moreno also emphasized the creation in 2002 of the Information Technology University, where more than 10,000 youths are studying.

After thanking the organizers for being chosen as honorary guest to the opening ceremony, the official announced that Cuba came to INDIASOFT with the intention of learning from the acknowledged experience of the host country and to explore
cooperation options.

We are promoting foreign investments and different forms of associations with serious and reliable companies, the minister asserted.
