Professors and dancers from 17 countries will take part in the 13th International Academies Encounter for the teaching of ballet from March 27 to April 10.

Important figures like Cuban-Mexican Getulio de la Rosa, Alicia Alonso Ballet founder, and Italian Joseph Fontano, president of the World Dance Association will lead the workshops.

Other participants are Tatiana Izquierdo, director of the Young Ballet of Lima, and her counterpart Brazilian Paula Castro, who will make up the jury of the 11th International Contest for Young Students.

About 500 students and educators from Mexican, Venezuelan, Ecuadorian, Bolivian, Panamanian, Guatemalan, Peruvian, Brazilian, Dominican, Costa Rican and Cuban institutions will take part in the encounter.

Also attending are representatives form Italy, Spain, England, Canada, South Africa and Portugal.

Fernando Alonso, one of the Cuban National Ballet School founders, will lecture on practices of methods like classical duo, repertoire and other methodologies of that academy.

The program also includes technical workshops, folklore, Spanish dance, makeup, performance and conferences about psycho-ballet and training.

The performance of the participating academies, one of the main attractions of the encounter, will take place in the Garcia Lorca Auditorium of the Great Theater of Havana.

The 13th International Ballet Academies Encounter will be dedicated to Prima Ballerina Assoluta Alicia Alonso and to the 50th Anniversary of the Cuban National Symphonic Orchestra.
