As it always happens around this date, the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) released some weeks ago the list of the groups for the next annual event, which will maintain the four groups system and a similar qualification system for the six finalists.
For the distribution, the Federation takes into account the teams’ performance in the previous year, making the method one of the least controversial, since FIVB’s goal is to reward the competitive effort and results of a team, whereas it does not favor the nations that return or debut in the showcase.
Because of Cuba’s hard-fought and well-deserved fifth place in the last FIVB tournament, the island’s team will head Group D, accompanied by Germany, Poland and Argentina.
Argentina will be the venue of the great final, slated for July 21-25.
The next WVBL, scheduled to kick off on Friday, June 4, will serve all the teams as part of their preparation for the world championship to run in Italy several months later.
The rest of the groups were made up as follows: Group A (Brazil, Bulgaria, Holland and Korea; Group B (Serbia, Italy, France and China) and Group C (Russia, United States, Finland and Egypt).
Once again, the qualification system benefits every group leader, as well as the best second place and the hosts of the final. Cuba should face no greater difficulties to reach the final round, where it will try to retake the medal road, as its head coach Orlando Samuel assured recently.
