Among other materials, the ship is carrying a collection of snapshots dedicated to the 51st anniversary of the Cuban Revolution and another one dedicated to the 65th anniversary of Russia’s October Revolution, as well as a collection of 73 photos entitled “The Cuban Report: Portraits under the Look of Time,” dedicated to the long-standing bonds of friendship between the Cuban and Russian peoples.
Also included are photos by Cuban photographer Alberto Korda and by Nikolai Chiguir, the first TASS news agency’s correspondent in Cuba from 1959 to 1963 and from 1975 to 1979.
The Krusenshtern is a four masted barque and tall ship that was built in 1926 in Bremerhaven-Wesermünde, Germany, as shipyard number “S408” under the name Padua (named after the eponymous Italian city).
It was given to the USSR in 1946 as war reparation and renamed after the early 19th century Baltic German explorer in Russian service, Adam Johann Krusenstern (1770-1846).
