Chilean singer-songwriter Isabel Parra admitted today that the Cuban New Song movement opened the world’s doors to her music because it showed her how to make songs that transcend beyond the context of the Southern Cone of Latin America.

According to the composer, the musical trends emerged in the Caribbean island last century is one of the most important artistic trends of the new man, referent to many generations.

The New Song broke the moulds by establishing a renewed song accessible to all ears and sensibilities but having the special ingredient to have emerged in the context of the Cuban revolution (1959), said the interpreter to Prensa Latina.

She said that this genre’s lyrics interest all and remain fully valid. They are simply universal.

I love Silvio Rodríguez and many others of its founders since they marked me deeply. They created a different style. Something similar happened with Violeta Parra (Thanks to Life). No one wrote such songs, which comprised no such issues.

Ojalá, Te doy una canción, Unicornio azul, all of them are Silvio Rodriguez’s songs who left a permanent mark on me.

It is quite normal other singer-songwriters emerged and the movement had been renewed. But it is impossible to forget the foundation of things.

Isabel (daughter of Violeta Parra) was one of the singers who participated yesterday in an international concert of the rebellious song held in this city to commemorate the bicentennial of the independence movement in Venezuela as well as the 8th anniversary of the popular victory against the coup occurred in April 2002.

At the end of the 1960s decade, the songs of some Cuba authors with the guitar as accompanying instrument came to light. These singers sang to love, to the reality of the country, and life in general.

It was evident that something new was happening in music and especially in the song in those early melodies, intimate, or epic, philosophical or colloquial, but always of high lyricism.
