Darío Delgado took over Friday as Cuba's Attorney General at a ceremony in the Palace of the Revolution.

He replaced Gen. Juan Aníbal Escalona Reguera, who was released from that post on March 23 for reasons of health.

Escalona, 78, held the job for more than 25 years. Delgado was his deputy. Escalona spoke briefly at the ceremony, Prensa Latina says, describing the deep emotion he felt after almost 50 years of maintaining high the obligation of sense of duty to defend the Revolution.

The AG's Office is a great family and a group of jurists with all that's needed to defend the revolutionary process, he said.

Present at the ceremony were Raúl Castro, Vice President José Ramón Machado Ventura, National Assembly president Ricardo Alarcón, Comptroller General Gladys Bejerano Portela and other high-ranking government officials.
