Jorge Sierra Dorado, a commercial specialist with the Marlin Marina in Cienfuegos, told Cuban News Agency ACN that the regatta began on March 30 at the Bas Du Fort nautical club in Guadeloupe and continued with stops in Saint Martin, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Jamaica.
He added the sailboats will arrive in Cienfuegos on April 21 to celebrate the 191st anniversary of the city, the only one founded by French settlers in Cuba.
The event is non-competitive. Nearly 30 sailboats participated in the first regatta held in 1999, including a trimaran led by world Swiss record holder Laurent Bourgnon, the 1994 and 1998 winner of the Route du Rhum and transatlantic single-handed yacht race, which takes places every four years in November.
The course is between Saint Malo,Brittany, France and Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe.
