Allan Morrison, president of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), will begin a visit to Cuba on Thursday.

During his stay in this capital, which will end on Saturday, the visitor will hold meetings on standards and their role in international trade, as well as the development of standardization in energy and environmental systems, mainly with the purpose of increasing quality in production and services, among other topics of interest according to a press release from the National Standardization Office (ONN).

This specialty also contributes to the increase of exports with products meeting the demands of the international market, a better use of available resources, and the saving of raw material, materials, fuel and energy.

At the time Commander Ernesto Che Guevara was Minister of Industries, he requested, in September, 1961, Cuba’s admission into this organization, so the island could have access to international standards and commercial exchanges of goods and services
were favored, without technical obstacles to trade.

The organization, based in Geneva, Switzerland, is part of the network made up by the International Electrotechnical Commission and the International Telecommunication Union.

During the 30th General Assembly of this entity, attended by representatives from its 98 member nations, Morrison was elected president of that group for the 2009-2010 period.
