The artist, who is carrying out a tour of eight Cuban provinces, arrived to the building where the famous Cuban group was rehearsing prior to the concert; they filmed scenes for the film Amor Cronico (Chronic Love) directed by actor Jorge Perogurria; and shared music and anecdotes.
Cucu and Los Muñequitos performed songs and dances coming from the roots brought from Africa by black slaves, and it seemed they had worked together all their lives, said overcome by emotion Andre Levin, the producer and musical director of this tour.
Los Muñequitos’ soloists, percussionists and dancers came on stage in Cardenas with original improvisations, which, together with art of the lead singer and co-founder of the group Yerba Buena, won the hearts of people attending the concert.
Perogurria told ACN that the film, included in the musical category, will be a tribute to Cuban cinema, covers the singer’s tour, and tells different stories from Santiago de Cuba, Gibara, Bayamo, Camagüey, Cienfuegos, Villa Clara, Matanzas and Ciudad de La Habana.
The actor who plays the leading role in several Cuban movies, among them Strawberry and Chocolate, referred to the honor of working with Los Muñequitos de Matanzas, which he described as unrepeatable due to its unique way of interpreting ancient rhythms.
Cucu Diamantes’ tour of the island will end on Sunday, Mother’s Day, with a concert at the Covarrubias Hall of Havana’s Teatro Nacional de Cuba, as announced by Andre Levin.
