Alicia Alonso''s Cuban National Ballet (BNC) is expected to premiere in Brazil in July a piece by choreographer Eduardo Blanco inspired in the Guarani legend on the origin of the Iguazu waterfalls, the waters of which bathe the border between Brazil and Argentina.

The piece, which will be previewed on Saturday in Havana, is schedule to run in Foz Iguazu city, near the falls, and then tour Sao Paulo, Brasilia, Campinas and Porto Alegre, according to BNC sources.

Entitled "Legend of the Waters," Blanco conceived the ballet in two acts. This is a co-production by the BNC and the Brazilian Cultural Cooperative, with a script by Frank Alvarez and set design by Salvador Fernandez.

It tells the story of the love between warrior Taroba and the beautiful Naipi, who was doomed to be sacrificed to a monster of the Guarani mythology, Mboi Tui. The monster breaks a giant rock and the waterfalls flow in their nature's thundering splendour.
