That’s the topic of a seminar held this May 21 in Miami to include panelists from academia, groups favoring more people-to-people contact with Cuba, shipping and aviation companies and even a phone link to members of Congress.
The event Friday was scheduled for 8:30am to 1pm at the hotel Sofitel at 5800 Blue Lagoon Drive near Miami International Airport. The cost was$25 per person, including breakfast.
The U.S. government bars most U.S. travel to Cuba as part of its four-decade-old embargo aimed to stem the flow of dollars to the Caribbean island.
Some groups are allowed access, including Cuban-Americans visiting family, researchers, journalists and in some cases, executives on trips authorized to scout sales opportunities. U.S. companies recently have been permitted to sell food and
medicines to the island.
