More than 20 countries in the Hemingway Tournament

HAVANA.The 60th Ernest Hemingway International Marlin Fishing Tournament was inaugurated last night in the capital, and dedicated to the first meeting between Fidel Castro and the eminent U.S. writer.
Based at the Hemingway Marina, programmed events include the unveiling of a commemorative plaque to the first encounter, in the competition, of the leader of the Revolution and the Nobel Literature laureate.
Other events listed are a meeting of sports journalists, film footage of the life in Cuba of the author of The Old Man and the Sea and the cancellation of a postage stamp marking the 60th edition of the tournament, which took place for the first time on May 26, 1950, and is one of the oldest in the world.
More than 130 fishers from 20 nations: the United States, Canada, Russia,Holland, Mexico and France, are competing in this year's event.
Last year France won the Hemingway Cup, awarded to the Marlin X team for winning three events in the tournament.
The tag release fishing competition (to protect the species) runs up until Saturday in which participants will be aspiring to obtain the highest points for the capture of blue marlin, white marlin, sailfish and spearfish.
