A Cuban program for the attention of pregnant women and children up to five years will be implemented in Nicaragua tomorrow, said Rosario Murillo, coordinator of the Communication and Citizenship Council.
The program will first involve the 39,000 women already attending consultations, and is designed to reduce infant mortality rate and preserve the health of mothers and children.
In a second phase, efforts will be directed to ensure the health of newborns and children up to five years, he added. In the meantime, mothers will learn to transmit education basics to children.
The program is based on a similar one implemented in Cuba with the name Educate Your Child, and will be put into practice tomorrow to welcome Mother's Day, celebrated there on May 30.
