HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 1 (acn) Cuba condemned Israel’s Monday attack on a fleet of six ships that were carrying aid to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
The attack on the so-called Freedom Flotilla, which had sailed from Turkey, was carried out by Israeli commandos in international waters, leaving at least 14 people dead and many more injured.
A declaration by the Cuban Foreign Ministry (MINREX) published on Tuesday by Granma newspaper expresses Cuba’s concern over this attack and urges the international community to demand that Israel immediately lifts its illegal, cruel and genocidal blockade of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
“Cuba offers its sincere condolences to the victims’ families and reiterates its support of and solidarity with the just cause of the Palestinian people and their inalienable rights that include the creation of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital,” the text concludes.
