Silvio Rodríguez honored American folk singer Pete Seeger on Thursday by dedicating his second Carnegie Hall concert to him.
Thirteen months ago, Rodríguez was denied a U.S. visa to participate in a homage to Seeger, now 91, at Madison Square Garden.
Rodríguez commented on Seeger in his blog, segunda cita. This is what he wrote:
"Last night, Pete was here. I dedicated the concert to him because he's a true Master. He has spent 91 years learning songs from everywhere to teach them everywhere.
He has left a little piece of Cuba in the United States, a little bit of Africa in Italy, a breath of Spain in Japan.
"To Pete, there are no borders. If there is a dream repairman, that's him. His life has been an example of brotherhood, of love for human beings and nature. He is a song we should learn.
"He has pink cheeks and a sharp glance, like a sailboat crossing an eternity of clean water. No doubt, there's Seeger for a while. An apprentice says so."
