TEHRAN, June 21 (MNA) - In separate meetings with Tehran's new ambassadors to Nicaragua, Cuba, and Paraguay on Monday, President Ahmadinejad said Iran seeks cordial ties with Latin American states.

The Ahmadinejad administration has developed strong ties with certain American countries especially Venezuela and Brazil. The move has angered Washington which considers the region as its backyard.

“Nowadays, there is a special view about Iran. So, the ambassadors must take advantage of this opportunity in order to enhance cooperation among independent countries,” Ahmadniejad said in a meeting with Morteza Khalaj, Iran’s new ambassador to Nicaragua.

Ahmadinejad called for deeper relations between Iran and Nicaragua in economic, political and cultural areas.

The president also asked Tehran’s ambassador to Havana to set the ground for the Cuban president to visit Iran.

“The ties between Iran and Cuba must increase because Cuba has withstood” for the United States for decades, he declared.

In meeting with Hojjatollah Soltani, Iran’s new ambassador to Uruguay, the president insisted on exploring ways to develop economic, political and cultural ties between the two countries.

“The Uruguayan people are dear to the government and people of Iran. So there should be attempts to make bilateral relations more cordial,” he said.

The president said a great positive development is taking place in Latin America which “deserves to be recognized”.
