Two Cuban scientists were awarded with the Third World Organization for Women in Science prize in the Chinese capital on Sunday, considered by both women a recognition to their work for several years.
The prizes were given to Ayme Pelaiz and Aramis Rivera by China's Vice President Xi Jinping in a ceremony at China People's Palace, with the presence of other Chinese authorities and participants at the 4th TWOWS General Assembly.
The Havana University professors told Prensa Latina that this new recognition also surprised them because Cuba won two of the three prizes given to Latin America and the Caribbean in Physics-Mathematics, and Chemistry, respectively. The other prize was given to the Mexican biologist Miriam Adela Amezcua.
Ayme stressed that this recognition shows the role of the women for contributing to the socio-economic development, and the Latin American scientific potential, despite of being developing nations.
Lectures of the Cuban scientists at this meeting are about the ferroelectric materials, and Cuban natural zeolites.
Representatives of 55 countries are taking part in this meeting to conclude on Wednesday.
