HAVANA, Jul. 9, 2010 (Xinhua News Agency) -- Salvadoran Foreign Minister Hugo Martinez held talks with his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez on Friday to prepare for the first trip by President Mauricio Funes to the Caribbean island nation.
Later, the two ministers also attended the signature of two bilateral agreements on education and health.
Martinez described as excellent the relations between both nations, and thanked Cuba for its solidarity with his people after Hurricane Ida in 2009.
Martinez traveled to Havana on Thursday afternoon, a day after his compatriot Francisco Chavez Abarca, accused of committing terrorist attacks in Cuba, was deported to the island from Venezuela, where he was arrested on July 1 under a false identity.
Cuba had asked the Interpol to arrest Chavez Abarca for involvement in the bombings in the Havana Hotels in 1997, which killed an Italian tourist.
Martinez said in San Salvador on Wednesday that Chavez Abarca's deportation to Cuba "is a matter among Venezuela, Interpol and Cuba."
