The U.S. House Agriculture Committee recently passed a measure that would ease the trade embargo against Cuba, allowing shipments of rice and other foods to be sold to the Caribbean country. Similar efforts have failed in Congress in previous years, but some economists and agriculture experts think this could be the year Texas farmers have been waiting for.

Rice farmer John Wynn points to plots of land he owns and talks about what is grown or raised there. He says his family's business is well-diversified with cattle and other crops. 'Without Cuba, we will probably keep muddling along. With Cuba, our noses will be a little higher above water,' he says.
