Jaruco’s Stairs is a beautiful rural area located at the Havana-Matanzas Heights, 40 kilometers from the capital and closes enough to the attractive village of Guanabacoa.
A curious combination of coast and hills of small size, interspersed with flat spots, gives contrast and color to the landscape that can be seen from the observation posts of the area.
Exploring the Aguirre Caves, near Jaruco’s Stairs, and the existence of crags and fossils from plants, motivated the interest of scholars and travelers, because they could provide data on the age and characteristics of the area.
Elevations, nothing impressive for their height, as none exceeds 250 meters, add a picturesque touch to the landscape, as some have shaped agglomerates.
This is karst rock formations, some rounded, flattened and vegetation-covered surface. Ideal habitat for native wildlife, especially songbirds.
Forests of cedars, mahogany, oak, and various types of palms abound in those places.
In Jaruco’s Stairs is based the most popular camping base of the province of Havana. Almost everyone agrees to think that this ecosystem is very safe and ideal for family camping.
An observation post was built in 1967. El Arabe restaurant, a tropical version of a mosque, as far as decoration is concerned, is very close. The decoration is also very seductive.
Such original place, in the Cuban countryside, offers delicious local and international cuisine, including of course, Arabic.
The rustic town of Jaruco’s Stairs, with people working in marine activities, is another place to visit, with the certainty that you will be very welcomed.
