HAVANA, Cuba.- The Teatro Meridional Theater Company, with artists from several countries and fond of traveling, will perform at Havana’s LLaurado Hall on August 27, 28 and 29.

The visitors will present the piece Miguel Hernandez, by Julio Salvatierra, on the great poet who fought in the Spanish Civil War and died in Franco prisons due to the inhuman conditions he was subjected to.

The piece takes place in the prison of Alicante, where the Spanish intellectual spent the last days of his life.  There, he’s visited by his ghosts, among them his wife, Josefina Manresa; his childhood friend Ramon Sije; the admired Chilean poet Pablo Neruda; and a mysterious woman, whom perhaps he met in Madrid.

The troupe is made up by Alvaro Lavin, Esteban Pico, Chani Martin, Paloma Vidal and Marina Seresesky, under the direction of Seresesky and Lavin.

Founded in 1992, Teatro Meridional has created 18 pieces, jointly produced between Spain, Italy and Portugal, which have been presented in numerous theaters and festivals in 14 nations and have received several international acknowledgements.

Presently based in Madrid, the company’s productions are mainly directed to Europe and Latin America.  Within Mediterranean theater styles, it searches for a common cultural essence shared by all of its members, based on the main concern for every actor’s interpretative work.
