Havana, Aug 23 (Prensa Latina) Leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro says the slightest use of nuclear weapons in a single, limited war could plunge the planet into a nuclear winter.
In a conversation with journalists on the "Round Table" television news show, reported on the Cubadebate website, Fidel Castro said a single, limited war between, for example, India and Pakistan, "that single war between two countries weak nuclear powers could produce that winter."
Cuban nuclear scientists say 25,000 nuclear weapons exist, "and I have talked about how they have 450,000 times the power of the one that destroyed Hiroshima," he said.
The Commander in Chief said that based on those 25,000 nuclear weapons, just 0.0004 percent of existing bombs would be needed to plunge the planet into a nuclear winter.
Commenting on the possibility of an imminent attack in the Persian Gulf, he said that "some are willing to do anything, succh as Israel. Others are willing to confront a nuclear government, "the most horrible world imaginable is the one that the
group of millionaires wants to impose."
Fidel Castro likewise referred to the roles of Russia and the People's Republic of China in that conflict, and said if both nations join together to tell U.S. President Barack Obama that he can prevent such a conflict, it would be enormously powerful.
"He (Obama) has constitutional power. He can decide. He has a Constitution that gives him the right to be the first to squeeze the trigger. That's it. He can only ask for one thing. He can ask for peace," Fidel Castro emphasized.
"It remains to be seen what will happen. The U.S. politicians are going all over the world and they do not know how to make it better. They have an armed mess! And like 20 crossed cables. If they use nuclear weapons, everything comes apart.
It must be prevented. It is a new situation," he said.
"Obama continues to have his finger on the trigger and does not have much time to make a decision. Let's prevent him from doing so. Everything that must be done must be done now," the Commander in Chief said.
Regarding the position of the people of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Cuban iconic leader stated, "The Iranians believe that the Israelis would not dare to do so, because it would be sheer madness, and they (the Iranians) are not afraid of death."
"But nevertheless, to Israel it seems horrible that the Iranians are so close to having nuclear weapons, no matter when. Even if it takes three years. It is something intolerable for the Israelis. And that is a reason to attack, if the Yankees don't attack," Fidel Castro affirmed.
He said that in the complex political chess game in which the destiny of the human species is at stake, the United States is in a checkmate situation, no matter how intelligent it is, and he warned that the system would collapse whether or not there is a war.
"Everyone must disarm. When they disarm, the empire disappears. Nobody can say how things will be. The only thing we can say is how things can't be." Nobody will revive after the risk of a nuclear war. Are they going to build nuclear weapons again? What for?" he asked.
Responding to a question about the situation in North East Asia, he emphasized,"The Koreans told the Chinese the truth: they did not sink the Cheonan. But when they blame them, they react by saying they will not allow themselves to be ruined. They can turn Seoul into a sea of flames." They are not going to fail to deal the first blow, after the war breaks out in Iran, because they know that they will immediately attack them. That's for sure. There should be the slightest doubt about that."
Regarding Latin American issues, he explained that Colombia and Mexico can influence whether or not events change in the hemisphere, which was not part of the wars of the past, but today it would have its share of suffering and loss due to its connection with the most powerful country, and where some of the principal forces of world power are located.
The leader of the Cuban Revolution referred to the real possibilities being created for the release of the five Cuban antiterrorists locked up in U.S. prisons since 1998.
Fernando González, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernández and René González are serving harsh sentences for informing on plans for violent actions against Cuba hatched by terrorist groups within the United States.
