Some of Cuba's most outstanding literature is available at Panama's 6th annual International Book Fair in this capital.

José Alberto Negrín, head of Cuba's participation in the event, which ends Sunday, told Prensa Latina that the island's offerings had been well-received for their diversity and richness.

This year, Cuba brought "some of its newest literature" for the fair, as well as books on Afro-Cuban religions, "in very high demand in this country"; novels, short stories, and poetry by figures such as Nicolás Guillen and national hero José Martí.

Cuba is also offering music from the ARTEX Bis Music label, along with other items, such as caps, hats, and Cuban flags.

The demand for literature is growing in Panama, which is why being at the fair is a "necessity", Negrín commented.

The fair's organizers said they expected some 70 000 people to visit the fair, including representatives of publishers, bookstores, museums, magazines, universities, the media, and businesses, along with the general public.
