Chinese, Cuban Leaders Meet

Cuban Vice President Abelardo Colome Ibarra, and Zhou Yongkang, a member of Political Bureau of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China, talked on Tuesday in this capital about collaboration between both countries.
During their meeting, the host highlighted the unbreakable links between China and Cuba, soon to mark their 50th anniversary, and greater bilateral cooperation, including the application of a law on security and domestic order.
"Both parties should work together to safeguard security and the interests of our respective nations," Zhou told the Cuban delegation, which has been on an official visit to this country since August 24.
Cuban ambassador Carlos Miguel Pereira Hernandez also attended the meeting.
Referring to the traditional friendship between the two parties and governments, Zhou, also secretary of the CPC Political and Legislative Affairs Committee, praised Cuba's efforts to confront the impact of the international economic crisis and natural disasters.
He also ratified China's support for the just struggle of the island's people to defend their sovereignty, and to end the U.S.-imposed blockade.
The host delegation also praised Cuba's economic and social achievements.
On Monday, Colome, who is also Minister of the Interior, held official talks with Chinese State Security Minister Geng Huichang.
The Cuban visitor's agenda also includes similar meetings with State Councilor and Public Security Minister Meng Jianzhu and other leaders.
Colome arrived in China from Vietnam, where he met with authorities to foster bilateral ties.
