Cuba is getting ready to conduct a national census to update the number and characteristics of the country's population and housing.
Cuba to Lead Population and Housing Census in 2012. Up to present, 17 censuses have been led in Cuba.
Due to the large amount of data to be processed, several government bodies and institutions will work together with the National Statistics Office (ONE) on the census.
It will include the territorial distribution of population, its composition by gender and age, skin color, educational level, jobs and other important elements, says a report by Granma newspaper.
Housing reports including houses's condition, technical state and public services will be updated.
After the latest census carried out in Cuba, in 2002, more than one million of 3.9 million houses have been damaged by natural disasters.
Up to present, 17 censuses have been led in Cuba. The first one, in 1774, yielded a population of around 171,620 inhabitants.
The first census conducted after the triumph of the Revolution, in 1970, showed transcendental transformations made in the country in ten years of the revolutionary government.
