Angola/Cuba Association calls attention to Agostinho Neto role

9/11/10 9:07 PM.Luanda." The international role played by the first and late president of Angola, Antonio Agostinho Neto, was highlighted Saturday in Luanda by the chairperson of the Angola/Cuba Friendship Association, Rodolfo Puente Ferro.
Puente Ferro was speaking during the opening of the 2nd meeting of Solidarity to Cuba, said that with his swearing-in as first Angola president, António Agostinho Neto set the gates of his country open to such movements as SWAPO, of Namíbia.
Similarly he allowed the South African ANC to establish bases in the province of Benguela, Kwanza Norte and in the region of Cacuso (Malange).
ZANU (Zimbabwe liberation movement) was based in the region of Cazombo, Moxico province, while the Catangueses fighters stayed in the province of Lunda Sul and Malange.
Rodolfo Puente Ferro, a former Cuban Ambassador to Angola, said that Agostinho Neto was the liberator and champion of unity of his people, with a profound internationalist vision, having left a great legacy to president Jose Eduardo dos Santos.
