Ballet Nacional de Cuba is regarded as one of the great ballet companies in the world, and they are performing at the Brisbane Festival later this month.
The story of the ballet company is fascinating. It was forged in political revolution, and it's been run since its inception by Alicia Alonso, who turns 90 this December.
Alicia Alonso is a brilliant dancer who made her name in America but chose to go back to Cuba. Amanda Smith is joined by Lynn Garafola, a leading US dance historian and critic, to tell more of the story.
Lynn Garafola is the author of Legacies of Twentieth Century Dance.
